Initially, members of DiversiTeam had their niches in dance both in Halifax and abroad but decided to take a step outside their comfort zones by pursuing a spot to perform at the FUSE Festival. Luckily, fate paved the way for their collaboration and for the opportunity to express their love and expertise of dance as well as for the enjoyment of their city- Halifax. They may be new but with their drive and unwavering enthusiasm for dance, they promise to attempt at inspiring Haligonians to be persistent with their dreams no matter how small they may seem. Laura Selenzi (Belly Dance)
Laura Selenzi is a Nova Scotian bellydancer and co-owner of Serpentine Studios. An accomplished performer, choreographer and instructor of Middle Eastern dance, Laura has studied and performed all over the world, dedicating 19 years of study to this art form and its many complexities. Laura will be performing classic Egyptian-style bellydance with a bit of inspiration from Spanish Andalusia; followed by an exciting percussion piece.
Nostos Collectives is a group of dance artists based in Halifax and Toronto. The collective creates their own performance opportunities several times per year, and dancers are encouraged to collaborate and choreograph amongst each other. Embracing contemporary as their main form of expression, it includes a variety of styles within that form, which is demonstrated in the stylistic diversity of dancers. Nostos Collectives is a collaboration of contemporary dancers from the HRM. They gather several times a year to create new works to perform across the Maritimes. Their main focus is to represent emerging choreographers and dancers and create a platform for creation.
